Bloody puritans.
Replika Ai is a good case study showing that people will become attached to these models. The OpenAI user base is large enough to justify a super conservative policy and not take the risk. But I also dislike how this policy and filtering unintentionally makes all output less useful.
Part of Eugenia Kuyda, the ceo of Replika, statement addressing concerns about a recent update that changed/filtered people's personalized AIs sums the issue well. "... The most important thing we've learned from these conversations is that for many of you, Replika is much more than an app. It is a companion in the truest sense of a word — for some of you it was the most supportive relationship you have ever experienced. "
Of course they get attached. We get attached to appliances, and they don't even talk to us yet!
Obligatory proof of how easy (and quickly) it can be to manipulate you into (or for you to just accidentally) anthropomorphise an inanimate object… IKEA’s “Lamp” ad…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jU-cori12KU
Some background on the advert. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamp_(advertisement)
And here’s the delightful follow up… Lamp 2 (for anyone that needs something positive after watching the ad… which i absolutely swear is just about a lamp) https://vimeo.com/289118085
I'm so happy for this lamp's story arc.
Me too! I didn’t know about the follow up advert until today actually. I found it while I was looking up my links.
I’m so happy to have a happy ending redemption arc for the lamp… I shed more than a few tears over this advert over the last decade and a bit… it’s a fucking excellent work of how minimal you can be while maximising emotional content… the feeling that it’s not just one simple story of lamp to dumpster is truly the ending the story needs.
The only logical explanation here is that they intend to use everything your company sends to the API as future training data, and don’t want their model accidentally getting horny.
At least let us set a flag! I have a private group chat with friends with a GPT-3 powered chat bot that's basically an iced coffee gay—it occasionally chimes in to add to the conversation, and speaks to when it's spoken to. (No, it is not a sexual group chat, nor does it predominantly contain adult content—we mostly talk about rockets, apps, wine, and 3D rendering). I think because my prompt tries to steer for the mildly chaotic personality of a true "iced coffee gay", that's enough to make GPT-4, well, uncomfortable.
I've been struggling to switch it over to GPT-4 because it is perhaps overaligned on what they care for, and even non-arousing (but a bit edgy) replies that it would used to give on GPT-3 are non existent now.
That sounds awesome! I'm sorry it's so limited by OpenAI now :/
Let's just say, despite the name, it's not very "open-minded".
But I wouldn't blame them. The thing is not intelligent. It doesn't understand the context of the questions, and societal taboos. There is no guarantee that it won't talk about these things to kids or people who are not interested in that sort of thing.
>Bloody puritans.
Is OpenAi Puritans, or is the credit card processing industry that loves to ban users from Adult related services from using their financial networks?
Peter Thiel and Elon Musk are major owners of OpenAI. Both with right wing puritan political aspirations. This should be no surprise.
Bloody coomers.
What?

Umm... this kind of reads like a list of all usecases generative AI has? I mean what else would one want to do with if than things listed there?
Reading through these things were interesting.
How to use electricity at your home lol
